So i live in Malta and i go out with a girl in Sicily is it impossible for us to stay together?

so i did not know italian at first but then i am learning she knows how to speak english and i know too i have learnt italian as stated before and i meet with her about once a month we really became close we have been sort of together for 9 months we talk every day via msn or i call her but i always am confused if it is possible for us to be together or it is just a waste of time?
